If you have always dreamed of scoring World Cup points, all you have to do is show up in Rybinsk, Russia, with the blessing of your National Ski Federation, and complete a race.
Only 25 women and 29 men are scheduled to start tomorrow’s pursuit, guaranteeing all finishers World Cup points. Despite the small fields, several top skiers are present. Justyna Kowalczyk (POL), the women’s overall World Cup leader will race, as will the top Russian and German women. Bonus World Cup points are available during the race, making this a great opportunity to move up in the overall rankings.
The men’s race is led by German veteran Rene Somemrfeldt. He will be challenged by a strong Russian contingent as well as a number of Italian Rsprinters.
Canada will start two men, Graham Nishikawa and Brent McMurtry.
The women will race the standard 15km pursuit format and the men 30k.
This weekend marks a rare three-race stop for the World Cup. Sunday will feature a Team Sprint.
